Bonneville's Extended Day Model The Bonneville Extended Day Model focuses on a "teaming" philosophy. Students are assigned a core teacher and stay with taht teacher all day with the exception of a 40 minute specialty class sometime during the middle of the day. Each teacher's class is divided into two tracks. The early track attends school from 8:00 until 2:15 and the later track attends from 9:15 to 3:30. The greatest advantage our model offers is a block of time every day from 8:00 until 9:15 and again from 2:15 until 3:30, when teachers have very small classes. During this time students receive their reading and writing curriculum. We are very protective of this time and consider it the most important time of the day. During this period there are no interruptions of instruction. No recess, no announcements, no assemblies, or gym. NO Interruptions! Please help us protect this valuable instructional time by not calling to speak with teachers of students during this time. With this uninterrupted time and small class sizes, teachers are able to focus on improving student skills in reading and writing. During the middle of the day, from 9:15 until 2:15, teachers have their entire classes. During this time announcements are made, we have assemblies and students will have their recess, lunch, library, and gym time. This is the time grade level teams teach math, science and social studies. |
